Surah Al-Baqarah · Ayah 219

“They question thee about strong drink and games of chance. Say: In both is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but the sin of them is greater than their usefulness. And they ask thee what they ought to spend. Say: that which is superfluous. Thus Allah maketh plain to you (His) revelations, that haply ye may reflect.”

“They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: "In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit." They ask thee how much they are to spend; Say: "What is beyond your needs." Thus doth Allah Make clear to you His Signs: In order that ye may consider-”

“They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they should spend. Say, "The excess [beyond needs]." Thus Allah makes clear to you the verses [of revelation] that you might give thought.”

“তারা তোমাকে মদ ও জুয়া সম্পর্কে জিজ্ঞেস করে। বলে দাও, এতদুভয়ের মধ্যে রয়েছে মহাপাপ। আর মানুষের জন্যে উপকারিতাও রয়েছে, তবে এগুলোর পাপ উপকারিতা অপেক্ষা অনেক বড়। আর তোমার কাছে জিজ্ঞেস করে, কি তারা ব্যয় করবে? বলে দাও, নিজেদের প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যয়ের পর যা বাঁচে তাই খরচ করবে। এভাবেই আল্লাহ তোমাদের জন্যে নির্দেশ সুস্পষ্টরূপে বর্ণনা করেন, যাতে তোমরা চিন্তা করতে পার।”

“(اے پیغمبر) لوگ تم سے شراب اور جوئے کا حکم دریافت کرتے ہیں۔ کہہ دو کہ ان میں نقصان بڑے ہیں اور لوگوں کے لئے کچھ فائدے بھی ہیں مگر ان کے نقصان فائدوں سے کہیں زیادہ ہیں اور یہ بھی تم سے پوچھتے ہیں کہ (خدا کی راہ میں) کون سا مال خرچ کریں۔ کہہ دو کہ جو ضرورت سے زیادہ ہو۔ اس طرح خدا تمہارے لئے اپنے احکام کھول کھول کر بیان فرماتا ہے تاکہ تم سوچو”
